A Wall Street Journal article by Laura Kusisto states that “New York City has expensive real estate, high wages and aging infrastructure compared with many foreign cities, but a report to be released Wednesday said the future of its small businesses could lie in exporting everything from craft beer to architectural drawings.
Big New York firms have long exported a wide range of goods and services—sugar and garments, “starchitects” and copywriters. Now because of technology and stagnant demand in the U.S., New York’s small service and manufacturing firms are increasingly dependent on shipping both their products and ideas overseas, according to the report by Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer’s office.”
